How does the PfMP certification relate to the PgMP or PMP certifications?
PfMP is a distinct, higher-level credential focused specifically on portfolio management, whereas PMP focuses on project management and PgMP on program management. While they are complementary, PfMP is not a successor to either. You can hold multiple PMI certifications simultaneously.
Is there a hands-on or lab component in the PfMP exam?
No. The PfMP exam is a computer-based test consisting of multiple-choice, multiple-response, matching, and hotspot questions. There is no hands-on or performance-based lab component.
If I fail the PfMP exam, when can I retake it?
You can retake the exam after a 12-month waiting period from your last attempt. There is no limit on the number of times you can take the exam, but you must reapply and pay the exam fee again for each attempt.
What job roles does the PfMP credential map to?
The PfMP credential is designed for senior professionals such as Portfolio Managers, PMO Directors, VPs of Program Management, and other executives who are responsible for managing a portfolio of projects and programs to achieve strategic objectives.
Can I recertify by passing a different PMI exam?
No. The PfMP certification must be maintained by earning 60 PDUs every three years. Passing another PMI exam, such as the PMP, does not automatically renew the PfMP credential, though PDUs earned from that activity can be applied toward your PfMP renewal requirement.
Are there testing accommodations available for candidates with disabilities?
Yes. PMI provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations for candidates with documented disabilities. You must submit a request for accommodations along with supporting documentation during the application process.
How soon will I receive my exam results?
For computer-based testing, you will receive a preliminary pass/fail result immediately upon completing the exam. Your official score report will be available in your PMI account within 2-3 business days.

Look at the five steps. Detect finds a face, align straightens it, encode turns it into numbers, search compares it with a stored face, and decide answers one question: is this the same person? Classification would only say “a face”. Detection would only draw a box. Neither decides whose.
