How does Open Source Essentials relate to other LPI Essentials certificates?
Open Source Essentials is part of LPI's Essentials track, which also includes Linux Essentials, Security Essentials, and Web Development Essentials. Each certificate is independent and has no prerequisites, so you can take them in any order.
Do I need to earn a lower-level LPI certification before taking the Open Source Essentials exam?
No. LPI states there are no prerequisites for this certification. You can take the exam directly, regardless of your experience or other certifications.
How do I schedule, reschedule, or cancel my exam appointment?
You must first register for a free LPI ID at lpi.org. Then, create an account with Pearson VUE, purchase an exam voucher, and schedule your exam. Rescheduling and cancellation are done through Pearson VUE, with a 24-hour notice required.
What are the retake policies for the Open Source Essentials exam?
After a first failed attempt, you must wait 7 days before retaking. For second or subsequent failures, you must wait 14 days. If you pass, you cannot retake the exam for at least 2 years.
Is there a hands-on or lab component in the Open Source Essentials exam?
No. The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. There is no hands-on or lab component.
How soon will I receive my exam results and certificate?
Pearson VUE provides a score report immediately after the exam. LPI receives your results within 24 hours, and if all requirements are met, your certification is issued. Your certificate is available as a PDF from your lpi.org account.
